Buddha Jataka Tales

Buddha Jataka Tales form a foundational collection of 547 Buddhist birth-stories recounting the Bodhisatta’s previous lives. Each narrative illustrates a virtue essential for enlightenment—compassion, generosity, patience, truthfulness, or loving-kindness—through engaging stories featuring kings, animals, hermits, and celestial beings. Preserved in the Pali Canon, these tales have inspired Buddhist art and literature across Asia for over 2,500 years. They were carved into ancient stupas at Bharhut and Sanchi, teaching pilgrims about karma and moral conduct. Today, they remain beloved for their timeless wisdom and universal ethical guidance.
